Celebration of the Heart

Written by Bianca Mariel E. Dorado

Christmas is indeed the time of giving, it is the season when we share pieces of our hearts to people we love and to those with whom we want to extend our hearts to. September marks the Christmas season in the Philippines, as they say we have the longest Christmas among all other countries in the world. From September to November, countdowns to Christmas Day were started, Christmas carols were played on the radio, Christmas lights and decorations were put up on streets and buildings, and items for exchange gifts and monito/monita can be bought anywhere from tiangges to bazaars and malls. Christmas spirit is everywhere. December comes, everybody's busy already, planning parties, get-togethers, gatherings, buying gifts and other stuff. But is this the true meaning of Christmas? Is it really about the parties and gifts?

In Catholic faith, Christmas is the Celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It was when God Gave us His Son. Jesus Christ is the greatest Christmas gift ever. He inspired and taught us valuable lessons, teachings and eventually redeem us from our sins. We should never forget what Christmas is really all about but whatever gift we give as long as it comes from the heart, it is still the best Christmas gift ever.
