It's Time

Written by Corazon P. Ferrer

Christmas is here again. People are looking everywhere to find something they can give to someone this season of the year. They search endlessly for things that can lighten up the face of that someone the moment they receive the gift. They look for best buys the town can offer. But the best gift isn't about such things wrapped in different hues and shapes. It isn't about how expensive or elegant it may be. Christmas is not about the presents. It's about the endless hours, the seconds and moments shared with the ones you've spent it with and ended it with. It's about time. The best gift you can give to someone or anyone is your time. It's like giving yourself too. One day, I came across a store and I saw this wall clock that had the word "Time" written on its face and the many expression pertaining to it. It didn't only give the correct time but also reminded you of the many ways time can be used and its influence in your life, one way or the other. Time does play a crucial role in anything and everything we do. But when is the right time, the perfect moment, really? And who decides when that is, if it is? I say every day. Every day is special. Every day is a reason to celebrate with your loved ones or with a stranger. Staying true to this basic reality does bring into natural order an innate happiness that will sit stoutly and solidly within our hearts, fostering a more genuine and generous appreciation for all that is around us. We must know how to count on more than the actuality of candles on a cake, gifts on the table. Things are just… things. We need not take them too seriously nor should we be too attached to them. Still, time is of the essence. Time is still the best prize one can have.
